Introduction
- There are several different ways to reset your sims in The Sims 4. Here we take a look at the options available. For players on console, not every cheat will work but since the number of cheats you have access to is constantly changing, we've included the console-specific buttons where possible so you can try out different reset methods.
- Now there isn't a folder name 'The Sims 4' in the Electronic Arts folder, start your game. Starting the game creates a new fresh 'The Sims 4' folder. When you create a game, with new Sims the rest of the folders will appear as well. A new The Sims 4 folder will have been recreated in the documents Electronic Arts folder. Some folders might be.
Many problems can be pinpointed on cc or corruption in your user data. There’s an easy way to reset your game to factory settings without going through the ordeal of reinstalling the whole thing.
Steps to take
Select The Sims 4 base game image and click the button, or right click on the image and select View Game Details. Select the expansion pack you need to install from the list and click Download. After the installation is complete, click The Sims 4 and then Play to launch the game.
This method temporarily removes all your save games, Mods/CC. Sims in your library and other things. It will also reset all your graphics settings and game options back to default. Do not worry though. You will get everything back.
Path can be different depending on your OS and setup.
- Make sure the game is closed
- Make a backup of the Sims 4 folder in DocumentsElectronic Arts to an external or flash drive.
- Open the folder DocumentsElectronic Arts
- Rename the The Sims 4 folder in to The Sims 4_Backup
- Start the game
- A new The Sims 4 folder will be recreated in documentsElectronic Arts which the game will recognize.
- Test, if the error is still present on a new save game.
- Error is still present: Delete the newly generated folder The Sims 4 and rename The Sims 4_Backup to The Sims 4. This will recover the status from before you stared this tutorial. Try different troubleshooting steps: Troubleshooting.
- Error is gone: Start putting all your old data back into the newly created folder.
- Copy the files from The Sims 4_BACKUP to The Sims 4, folder per folder as described below.
- Start with your save games (saves) and test if the error is also gone for your current savegame. The save will be loaded without all your Mods/CC as those are still missing. This means that all your clothing/hair/objects will be removed from your Sims. Always work on a copy of your save because of this until you find the cause of your error.
- If the error ist still present, it’s possible that your savegame is corrupt or that there’s simply a bug that can’t be solved from your side. Try an older backup if you have one.
- Now copy the rest folder by folder and file by file. Not all files need copying back. Some of them are cache files that will be recreated and can be the source of the issue.
- Test after every folder. If the game stops working, you know where to look.
- Options(.ini): Contains all settings which you did in the Options in your game except the ones that are saved per save game (like aging and autonomy). It’s better to re-set all options manually, but you can also simply copy back the file. Test if the game still runs.
- Screenshots: The screen shoots you have taken in game.
- Custom Music: If you have any custom music, put them back.
- Tray: All your houses, Sims and rooms. If the game starts to act up again, put each file group back separately and testing afterwards to see what can be saved.
- ConfigOverride: if you have your own configuration files.
- Mods: Your custom content or mods. If the game starts to act up again, use the 50/50 method to find the culprit.

How to cheat on The Sims 4
In order to enter the cheats included in this article, you’ll first have to bring up the Sims 4 cheat dialog box.
Here is how to open the cheat dialog box on different platforms:
Enable cheat on Windows PC
On your keyboard, press Ctrl, Shift and C at the same time. This will fire up the cheat dialogue box where you can enter the cheats. After typing each cheat, press Enter.
Enable cheat on Mac
On your keyboard, press Command Shift and C at the same time. This will fire up the cheat dialogue box where you can enter the cheats. After typing each cheat, press Enter.
Enable cheat on console (PS4/Xbox One)
If you’re playing The Sims 4 on PS4/Xbox One, then you need to hold all four shoulder buttons at once. This will fire up the cheat dialogue box where you can enter the cheats. After typing each cheat, press Enter.

1. Shift + Click Sims 4 cheats
For the cheats that are marked as “shift click”, you’ll be required to enter “testingCheats true” or “testingCheats on” in the chat menu in order to use them. This command also enables you to unlock the Shift Click options as follows:

Sims 4 How To Play
in the chat menu in order to unlock further cheat options, which are listed as follows:
- Shift-click on an area of ground then select Teleport Sim to teleport a Sim to that chosen location.
- Shift-click on an object then select Make Dirty or Make Clean to change its status.
- Shift-click on a Sim or object then select Reset Object to reset its status if it’s glitchy or stuck.
- Shift-click on the Sim then select Cheat Need to make your Sim happy and feel fulfilled.
- Shift-click on a Sim then choose Disable Need Decay to stop changing its needs (choose Enable to allow changing needs).
- Shift-click on a Sim then choose Make head to put an object on top of your Sim.
- Shift-click on a Sim and select Modift in CAS to modify a Sim but not change its name or traits.
- Shift-click on a Sim and choose Add to Family or Remove from Family to add/remove a Sim to/from a household.
- Shift-click a Sim and choose Make into Plant Sim to transform the selected Sim into a plant person.

If you wish to turn off these menu options, you can enter “testingCheats false” or “testingCheats off”.

While it’s good for our Sims to build up their skills the natural way, sometimes we just can’t help giving them a little boost. The following cheats allow you to max out your Sim’s skill level in particular areas (as shown in bold).
Most skill cheats follow a basic syntax (although there are some variations): stats.set_skill_level (skillname) (level from 1-10 if it’s a major skill; level from 1-5 if it’s a minor skill).
For example, if you want to max out your Sim’s charisma, you can enter stats.set_skill_level Major_Charisma 10. Or if you don’t want your Sim to completely master the skill, you can change the number 10 to a lower value (1-9).

The following cheat codes allow you to make or break your Sim’s relationship.
As you can see, the number 100 is a percentage. You can change the value from 1 to 100 to specify the extent of the relationship. The minus sign before the number denotes that the relationship is in a negative way.
